PRINCIPLES

A personal principle is generally used as a basis of conduct or management for decision making throughout one’s life. Similar to core values, personal principles also serve as a guide post throughout life. Principles help to form our thoughts, words, actions, and help us to draw the line between good and bad. They also represent an objective reality in which it blends both culture and individuals. Many people today have their own set of principles by which they live by. Here are some of the following principles by which I personally live according to.

“Never take things for granted”

I believe it is important for individuals to be grateful for what they have and own, even if it isn’t what others may have. Many people today are too focused on pessimistic thoughts on objects and experiences they have yet to gain. I believe it is important to be appreciative and grateful for what we have and for what we will eventually receive. There are too many people around the world who are less fortunate and would be extremely grateful for not only what we own but how we live our lives as well. I have learned to never take things for granted because I believe other people may be more appreciative and worthy of receiving them.

“Live life to the fullest”

This principle ties in to the first with never taking things for granted. Life is too precious and could end instantly. Tomorrow is never promised, which is why I believe it is important to live as if today could be our last day on Earth. I have learned this the hard way as I have personally known family members and friends who have passed way too soon. I do not want to live a life full of regrets, which is why I base my actions and decisions on this principle. Many people today seem to hold back and feel reluctant to do what they truly want, which leads to regret. Take chances and embrace opportunities presented to you.

“Always give 110%”

This principle has been a part of my life ever since I was young. I have learned to not just give 100% but 110%, which means to give more than you have to give. To go beyond and even further than that. I have applied this principle to everything I do, whether it is in school, sports, or in the gym as well. By giving it my all, I truly know that I have done the best I could, regardless of the results. I believe the habit of giving 110% pays off later on in life in general. Your effort is clearly shown when receiving an A+ on an exam, winning a competition, or receiving a raise from your company.

“Never a loss, always a lesson”

This principle has helped to shape the way I experience events throughout life. It has helped me to create a more optimistic mindset and avoid a pessimistic one. I believe that there is no such thing as a loss, only a lesson to comprehend. Winning and losing is such a vague concept that either makes a person feel accomplished or defeated. By looking at a defeat in an optimistic approach, we see can see that there is only room for improvement and growth. I still use this concept when taking exams and receiving a bad score. I quickly accept my grade and look at way for myself to improve in the class, whether it be by improving the type of material I study or improving the way I study as well. I believe everyone should incorporate this principle into their lifestyle, as it can improve not only their mindset but their behaviors, actions, and habits as well.
